Microsoft Office 2008

Posted by Aaron Paxson on March 13, 2008

Jim Heid has a way with words.  In his post a couple of weeks ago, he says…

Microsoft Office 2008 is the closest thing to a malicious virus yet to hit the Macintosh platform.

The end.

I love it.  As I said… he has a way with words.  Stick to NeoOffice, guys.

I Bought a PowerBook!

Posted by Aaron Paxson on March 2, 2008

Well, I finally did it.  I bought a PowerBook for myself off of EBay a couple of nights ago.  Up till now, I’ve only had G4 Desktops at my house (and a broken down G3 and iBook).  Well, I finally convinced my wife to allow me the small pleasure of bidding for a PowerBook G4.

Powerbook G4-1

Well, I won the bid, but I think it was a bit high.  I didn’t care, though.  I could have gotten a 13″ MacBook from Apple for $950 (with tax).  I decided to get a 17″ PowerBook (1.6GHz) for almost the same price.  It has a 17″ screen rather than the 13″ screen on the MacBook,120GB hard drive, and 1.5GB memory.  I didn’t think I did too bad, though, I probably could have done better.

It can run Leopard, when I’m ready to buy it, but it comes with Tiger.  But no iSight :-(  oh well.

If you think I could have done better, don’t tell me.  I’d rather not know.  :-)
So, now I’m waiting for it to ship.  I’m like a 7-year-old, sitting in an ice cream shop for that huge chocolate and fudge sundae in 110-degree weather.

The coolest laptop EVER!!

Posted by Aaron Paxson on January 18, 2008

Okay, so I must say… I was astounded by this laptop when I first noticed it. This is just too cool! I am just amazed at the creativity and innovation at Apple. Can I work there????? :)

Seriously, this laptop just rocks. It is so thin, you can put it in a memo-sized manilla envelope. And the touchpad has the same technology as the iPod touch and iPhone (i.e. rotate, zoom-in, zoom-out, and swipe). Of course, it wouldn’t be an apple machine without the built-in i-sight camera.

Oh, and the keyboard is backlit, automatically. So, when the laptop senses decreased lighting, it will actually start to illuminate the keys. You have no idea how great this would be in a meeting presentation, or on an airplane!

I’m just astonished at the size of this laptop. Obviously, the hard drive must be solid-state, which means no moving parts. I’d be afraid to break the thing!!

Check out the guided tour here.

Mac Leopard

Posted by Aaron Paxson on October 17, 2007

I am sooo drooling! Oh, to get a new MacBook Pro with Leopard. Or, even a Dual G5 with dual-cinema screens using Leopard………

http://nizo.wordpress.com/2007/10/16/the-countdown-has-started-mac-os-leopard/

What’s cool?

  1. Desktop: The Dock now has a “Stacking” feature, which de-clutters your desktop, and opens all those apps and files in an animated fan, as it opens to your desktop.
  2. Finder: The Finder application is now more like “iTunes”. But, instead of just music or videos, it’s now all your files.
  3. File Preview: You can now preview files without actually opening them. Step through multi-page documents, or view videos, just by the preview.
  4. Time Machine: A VERY, very cool way to backup and restore your files.
  5. Spaces: For those Linux users who loves using their virtual desktop, Mac now has it’s virtual desktop, and they call it “Spaces”
  6. Boot Camp: Boot Camp comes default. This allows you to boot XP on a Mac machine (No, that does not include the XP license, just the ability to boot to it)
