Video Conferencing the World!

Posted by Aaron Paxson on October 12, 2007

It is fascinating how far we have come in technology.   Can you imagine how difficult it must have been for businesses to work together when geographically seperated?  I mean, seriously.  Think about back in the 1940’s.  No email.  No internet or computer systems.  Just phones and paper (did they have paper back in the 40’s???) :)

Fast forward to present.  We have taken email and instant messaging for granted.  Hearing news that’s 5 minutes old, from the other side of the world is common-place.  We are just too connected.

I bring this up, because I just finished testing a Video Conferencing call with a Taiwan supplier. through the internet  They were very nice, and it was really neat being face-to-face, as it were.  Obviously, the test was a success.

I must say, that I was incredibly impressed with their internet.  I poorly assumed that Taiwan’s internet access would be like China’s internet access (an outhouse is probably cleaner than China’s internet).  Much to my dismay, I was wrong.

After 3 minutes, the Polycom’s video algorithm took affect, and our 256k video through the internet was looking very good.  It’s just amazing…..
